- Issue creating Exchange 2013 Default Profile using Office Customization Tool 2 answers
We have Outlook 2013 configured using the Office Customization Tool (setup.exe /admin) that is built into Office 2013 enterprise. This configuration worked great with Exchange 2007 but just fixing the server address in the configuration results in Outlook 2013 saying that it cannot communicate with the server followed by the OCT file not being correct. If we do not configure the OCT settings, it runs through the Welcome wizard and auto configures correctly. How can I fix the OCT config to make the profile without asking questions?
Also, if I changed the registry using Microsoft Office Customization Tool 2013, would I remove the old entry and add the new registry entry, or just add the new registry entry? My goal is to create an Office install that, along with other customizations that I already have done, would put the Quick Print in the Quick Access Toolbar. This is the original post Issue creating Exchange 2013 Default Profile using Office Customization Tool that I wanted to ask clarification on because the answer doesn't tell you how to fix the problem. It was deleted by server fault moderators because it doesn't 'answer the question'. I was told that what comments are for, but I don't have enough rep to comment. Not a great way to encourage new users to your forum...

If your environment is like ours, Outlook will auto configure itself properly if you do not customize it with the Office Customization Tool. There is a 5 step wizard where you mostly just click next until you are done. If that is the case, you want to reset the Outlook customization done by the OCT. You can do this by deleting the file c:program filesMicrosoft Officecustom15.prf or custom14.prf. That will restore the 5 step wizard that works.
We employed computer side group policy preferences to delete the file when the computers boot up.
To suppress the wizard and let Outlook open without asking questions, we set a user side group policy. This requires the ADMX templates for Office 2010/2013 to be downloaded and added to your GP console. User->Admin Templates->Outlook 2013->Account Settings->Exchange-> Automatically configure based on Active Directory Primary SMTP address.

Performing a Lync 2013 silent install isn’t as easy as it was with Lync 2010, especially if the application you’re trying to install was downloaded from the Volume License website.
I’m not sure if the issue I had trying to perform a Lync 2013 silent install applies to all version of Lync 2013. The problem I had was that after I created a customised MSP file (keep reading to see how to do that) and started the installation silently, Lync was not there! I could see it in Add/Remove Programs, but I couldn’t see it anywhere else. Not even when I searched in Start: this problem occurred on both Windows 7 and 8.1. Note that I’ve only tried with the 32bit version (also SP1) as that’s the one I need to deploy (also to machines running Windows x64).

After searching for a while I finally got to a download page on the Microsoft website:

Basically this file contains updated Office Customization Tool (OPAX/OPAL) files for Microsoft Office 2013.
Once you have downloaded the file, run it (it’s a self extractor .exe file) and choose the location where to extract the files.
Navigate to the location where you extracted those files and copy the admin folder in the root of the Lync 2013 installation folder and overwrite all existing files and folders.

Once you’ve done that, you’re good to re-create the MSP file for a customised Lync 2013 silent install. If you already have the old MSP file you created earlier with the original Lync 2013 installation, you must import it and save it back again.
If you’re here just to see how to create a Lync 2013 silent install MSP file, this is the moment ? .
Let’s suppose the content of the Lync 2013 installation is in C:tempLync 2013x86.

This will open up the tool that will allow us to customise the installation. You’ll be prompt to select the version of the application you want to customise and then you’ll be good to start using the Microsoft Office Customization Tool.

This is the most important part which will allow Lync to be installed silently. Firstly choose whether you’re going to use a KMS server or just type the product key in. Secondly, you want to accept the terms and conditions and finally select None as Display Level (or just make sure the Suppress modal is selected).
